Steve, the original drummer for The Gits, wrote his book as a deeply personal account of the band’s early days, creative process, and the beautifully chaotic world they inhabited. Song Over The Bones is a nonlinear memoir about surviving a house fire, abandonment, and trauma, with The Gits’ music as a throughline and emotional anchor.

Together, the books offer two perspectives on the same moment in time—his from the inside of the grunge movement, and mine, as being influenced by it. Both are rooted in the PNW music scene and speak to the lasting power of underground music and the community it creates.
